Enfield (Cambridge Road) |

Brian Gardner worked here as a science technician. It was the second of three schools within the
London Borough of Enfield that he worked during the 1970's. The others being Arnos school and
Chase Boys School. Not a happy time as the ethos of the school and the attitude of the boss was not to his liking. For example, all staff had to attend the open evening and were told that they had to wear their university gowns for the occasion, if they didn't have one (because they were not entitled to one) the school would provide one for them (cheats). He was the only person not to wear a gown!! |
| Jane Gardner's secondary school. Not a particularly happy experience for Jane. She went on a school trip to Switzerland where she was involved in a road accident see newspaper report. |
|
| Our local non-league football team who were very successful when the Gardners lived in Enfield. They were spectators at many home matches and watched Enfield in a couple of FA Cup runs play league opposition beating teams such as Port Vale for example. They also won the FA trophy at Wembley during that time. The team was sold out by the land owners, the ground site has become a cinema complex and the glory days no longer exist except as fond memories. |
| The site of Belling's factory where Percy William Gardner worked before the war. This may have been his first job after his family moved from Hackney. |
|
The location of schoolboy football matches played by Steven
and Adam Gardner.
Also Steven refereed more senior matches here on occassions. Also the location of Jane Gardner and friend being confronted by a flasher. |
