Bertie 1889 -

The only known portrait of Bertie Fitzjohn. No-one in the family had a good word for this man. A farm worker moved to Stoke Newington (London) where the family was raised. There he continued to work with horses in a dairy. Ethel Fitzjohn left him and returned to Writtle (Essex) after the family had grown up. I remember everyone hiding when he was seen in the village. |
A wedding photograph of the guests at the 1941 wedding
of Peggy (Dorothy Fitzjohn) to Percy Gardner. Shows her father Bertie Fitzjohn
centre, with her mother Ethel Fitzjohn (nee Moss) bottom right. The photo also shows Ethel Gardner (nee Bartrip) bottom left and her mother Sarah Bartrip (nee Crocket) just behind her alongside Bertie Fitzjohn. We could not find out for certain why Percy Gardner's father (Percy Frank Gardner) was not present at the wedding. |
